Mountain View Moments Newsletter

NOVEMBER 2022

Mountain View is a Title I School.  This means that we receive supplemental funds to assist our teachers and staff in meeting the educational needs of our students.  Title I funds can be used to improve our school’s curriculum resources, instructional activities, parental involvement, and increase the number of teachers and staff that we have working with our students.  At Mountain View, the majority of our Title I allocations are used to fund:

· Instructional and technology resources for our students

· A Family School Coordinator and a RTI Coordinator

· Class size-reduction teachers

· Additional Instructional Assistants

· Parent involvement programs and events

We will have Family S.T.E.A.M. Night on Thursday, November 17, 2022.  Additional details and a RSVP form will be sent home soon.  We hope to see you there!

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Happy November! I can’t believe the holidays are just around the corner.

This month in PE we will begin a soccer unit to focus on kicking, passing, and trapping with our feet. I’m also planning to incorporate some stations to review skills we have worked on earlier this year.

Stay active, Coach Scott

ART

We are wrapping up Hispanic Heritage month with some AMAZING projects! I am so proud of our MVE students and how hard they have worked in the art room!

Be on the lookout this month for information going home regarding the PTA’s Reflections Art competition. Students who wish to participate in this year’s competition will need the permission form filled out and returned by the end of this month.

Since this is the month of gratitude, please know how grateful I am to get to work with your kiddos every day in the art room!

GUIDANCE

In Counseling Classes, we have been focusing on problem-solving skills and learning appropriate ways to handle problems, including bullying problems. These lessons will lead us into lessons that will begin sometime in December that will focus on personal safety and best ways to handle such problems.

Some main ideas that will be covered include, “listening” to their feelings, learning the difference between a safe touch and an unsafe touch, thinking about an appropriate plan to get out of unsafe situations, and putting the plan into action by following the 3 steps listed below:

 · Say “NO” in a strong voice.

· Walk away immediately to a safe place.

· Talk to a safe grown-up.

If you are interested in reviewing any of the material, please call me (434.5260) to schedule a time that we can meet.

MUSIC

Composer Spotlight

In Music classes, students are learning about Peter Tchaikovsky during the month of November.  Some facts we are learning about Tchaikovsky is that he:

· Is from Russia

· Was a romantic composer (1830-1900) – A time in history where music was very emotional

· Wrote music to several famous ballets like:

Swan Lake

The Nutcracker

The Sleeping Beauty

Here are some great websites to access kid-friendly information about Peter Tchaikovsky

LIBRARY

I'm so EXCITED!

The Star Lab will be back at Mountain View during the month of November!  It's like bringing a planetarium to our school.  Students will have the opportunity to explore outer space. I will have a different focus for each grade level depending on their standards.

Please remind your children to turn their library books back in.
